Support for Pets, Owners & Veterinary Teams

Veterinary visits shouldn’t feel overwhelming for you, your pet, or the people caring for them. Paws & Praise offers cooperative care training and collaborative handling support designed to help pets feel safer, more comfortable, and more confident during veterinary care.

  • Veterinary visits can feel overwhelming for many pets, owners, and veterinary teams. Fear, stress, handling sensitivities, and past negative experiences can make routine care more difficult and emotionally exhausting for everyone involved. Through trust-based training, positive reinforcement, and collaborative support, cooperative care helps pets build confidence and comfort with veterinary handling and procedures.

    • Helps reduce fear and stress surrounding veterinary care

    • Supports safer, lower-stress handling experiences

    • Encourages positive associations with exams and procedures

    • Helps pets build confidence with body handling and restraint

    • Improves communication between pets, owners, and veterinary teams

    • Supports long-term comfort and trust with veterinary care

Fear, stress, and handling sensitivities are also common contributors to safety concerns in veterinary settings, making proactive support and communication especially important.

  • Paws & Praise offers personalized cooperative care and veterinary visit support tailored to each pet’s individual needs, comfort level, and veterinary goals. Services are designed to help pets feel safer and more comfortable while supporting owners and veterinary professionals through a collaborative, trust-based approach.

  • Do you replace veterinary staff or provide medical care?

No. Paws & Praise does not provide veterinary medical services or replace veterinary staff. This service is designed to support pets, owners, and veterinary teams through cooperative care training, positive reinforcement, and collaborative handling support.

Can you attend my pet’s veterinary appointment with me?

In some cases, yes. Depending on the clinic, appointment type, and your pet’s needs, support during veterinary visits may be available.

Is this only for fearful or aggressive pets?

Not at all! Cooperative care can benefit puppies, adolescent pets, senior pets, chronic care patients, and pets of all temperaments. Early positive experiences can help prevent future stress and handling difficulties.

Do clinics have to partner with you directly?

No. While Paws & Praise hopes to collaborate with local veterinary clinics, clients are still welcome to inquire about cooperative care services independently.

Do you work with cats as well as dogs?

Yes! Cooperative care and low-stress handling support can benefit both dogs and cats.

Can cooperative care help reduce the need for restraint or sedation?

Every pet and situation is different, and veterinary recommendations should always be followed. However, cooperative care training may help pets feel more comfortable with handling and procedures over time, which can improve overall veterinary experiences.

How long does cooperative care training take?

That depends on your pet’s history, comfort level, and goals. Some pets benefit from just a few preparation sessions, while others may need more ongoing support for long-term confidence building.

  • Cooperative care and veterinary visit support may benefit:

    • Puppies or Kittens attending their first vet visits

    • Fearful or anxious pets

    • Pets with handling sensitivities

    • Dogs needing muzzle conditioning

    • Cats who struggle with transport or exams

    • Pets with chronic medical needs

    • Senior pets requiring frequent veterinary care

    • Pets preparing for a big procedure that will require continued follow up care

    • Pets recovering from difficult or traumatic veterinary experiences

    • Owners wanting additional support and advocacy during appointments
